Yellowjackets Season 2 Update Offered By Showrunners

Showrunners for the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets offer an update on the status of the highly anticipated season 2, which is in the writing stage.

Showrunners for Showtime’s newest hit series Yellowjackets offer an update on season 2. Yellowjackets tells the tale of a talented high school girls soccer team who become the survivors of a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. The series began airing in November of 2021 and immediately captivated audiences with its twisty and wildly varied plot lines, including a Senate race, seances, murder, and cannibalism. Yellowjackets’ season 1 finale aired on January 16, 2022.

With the almost immediate success of YellowjacketsShowtime was quick to renew the series, which has been greenlit for season 2 since about halfway through its ten-episode run. This, of course, is good news for fans, as Yellowjackets season 1 ended with many questions left unanswered – and one major death. Now, fans have nothing to do but speculate on coming events and wait as patiently as they can for a Yellowjackets season 2.

That said, fans can take comfort in knowing that plans for Yellowjackets season 2 are already in progress. In a recent interview with VarietyYellowjackets’ showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson give an update on season 2’s progress. Lyle states that the writers’ room has been opened, and that “a couple of new faces” have been added to the mix. She also reveals that, new faces aside, the writers “largely have the team intact from season one.” Lyle does not offer any teasers for the upcoming season, but says that all the writers were “excited to dig in,” even if they are “still in the early phases.” See her full quote below:

We’ve opened our writer’s room, we have added a couple of new faces to the mix and largely have the team intact from season one because they were fantastic. We’re just excited to dig in, but as Bart said, we are in the early phases.

However, despite very little being revealed about season 2, fellow showrunner Jonathan Lisco did reveal that the writers are still working on a plan for a five-season run of Yellowjackets. According to Lisco, the writers “really do have a five season template,” though he admitted that once in the writers room, and once a writer can see their material interpreted by actors, “things change.” With that said, he finished by stating, “you do need a plan, and we do have one.”

Fans of Yellowjackets can rest easy knowing that, if all goes according to plan, they won’t be having to say goodbye to any of their favorite characters any time soon. While still early days, the wheels are clearly in motion, and season 2 is certainly on its way. Unfortunately, there is not much else fans can do now besides continue to share theories online while they wait for a Yellowjackets season 2 release date.
